Reporting to the Advancement Division Director, the Senior Membership Marketing Manager is a strategic and pivotal leader responsible for driving $9M+ in earned revenue annually, resulting in a ~40,000 household program. The position is primarily responsible for overseeing Membership team activities, including membership marketing campaigns, technology projects and improvements, coordinating and managing multiple third-party vendor and marketing agency relationships, efficiently managing a significant expense budget, thoughtfully planning Member engagements, and leading the Academy’s efforts to renew our members and meet revenue goals. This team member plays a key role in marketing existing programs and offerings and developing and launching new membership products. This is a supervisory role overseeing the Membership Program Manager, Membership Operations Manager, and Membership Coordinator.

This position is based in San Francisco, California. Staff are currently expected to work from the Academy offices at least 2-3 times per week, which may fluctuate based on business needs. Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead strategy and implementation of the multi-channel direct response program that includes direct mail, email, retargeting, digital and social advertising
- Oversee and support the strategic direction and day to day coordination of external consultants supporting membership campaigns. Responsibilities include managing deliverables, tracking execution, and contributing to performance strategy through ROI monitoring and regular reviews.
- Manage relationships and contracts with external direct response vendors, mail house, list brokers, etc., and lead requests for Proposal process for future product launches
- Develop strategy and lead execution renewal program tactics representing $5.5M in earned revenue; drive tests on creative and offers to ensure incremental response rates; ensure reporting dashboards are implemented and leverage analytics to optimize revenue
- Develop marketing plans and implement strategy and tactics in support of launching or relaunching membership programs, such as Gift Memberships or other offerings
- Drive marketing strategy for the Annual Membership Subscription Plan and Annual Auto renewal programs; make recommendations on marketing opportunities to increase member penetration and enrollment
- Lead annual budget planning, work with team to submit and track invoices monthly; find efficiencies and partner with the Director to ensure the best execution and return on the annual membership marketing budget
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal partners to manage targeting, touchpoints, and timing of all communications to active/lapsed members
- Create an effective membership upgrade and small donation ask strategy and collaborate with Advancement colleagues to support upgrade, customer journey, and pipeline strategies
- Create reporting dashboards in partnership with internal and external partners
- Ensure each sales channel (web, contact center, box office) is optimized; lead efforts to put digital and in-person upsell strategies in place and ensure sales collateral and other resources are up-to-date
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the Membership Marketing Manager to ensure the development of a segmented and strategic members communications plan; planning and execution of regular member programming (hybrid and onsite), execution of member exclusive events, and email builds/delivery and list pulls, among other duties
- Along with the Senior Manager, Development Operations, supervise the day to day tasks of the Membership Operations Manager to ensure Membership data is appropriately tracked in the Academy’s CRM, Tessitura, and technology projects are managed efficiently
- Supervise the Membership Coordinator to ensure administrative and Membership program support is on track to meet team goals
- Support the Advancement team with daytime and occasional night-time and weekend events
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Experience and/or Education:
- BA/BS in Marketing, Communications, or related field or equivalent experience preferred
- 5 years of experience in direct response marketing, including direct mail, email, digital and social media advertising
- 2+ years of experience in non-profit membership and/or marketing
- Proven track record in using data and analytics to make strategic marketing decisions
- Experience in querying databases, extracting mailing lists, and building basic reports required
- Solid experience with project management is required

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $98,000 - $108,000. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, skills/knowledge set, and internal equity. We believe in fair and equitable compensation practices and are committed to providing competitive salaries within the industry and market standards. The Academy offers a total compensation package that emphasizes both base salary and comprehensive benefits based on the hours per week worked. Further details regarding compensation and benefits will be discussed during the interview process.
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
