Position Description
The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on a mission to equitably decarbonize buildings in this decade to improve the livability of our communities. Our partnerships with local communities, government leaders, and businesses provide unique insights into how to make this vision a reality.
IMT seeks a Chief Program Officer with experience across the full range of stakeholders and subject matter we engage to advance our mission. The Chief Program Officer (CPO) will oversee all programmatic work and manage each of IMT’s program teams, including Community Engagement, Policy and Regulatory Engagement, and Business Engagement. The CPO will work collaboratively with the senior leadership team and the program staff to execute an ambitious organizational strategy. They will ensure that IMT is delivering effective work, informed by the multitude of stakeholders in the field of equitable building decarbonization. They will set expectations and milestones for IMT program positioning and monitor progress against our organizational strategic goals.
The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer, and is part of IMT’s Executive Management Team.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership (30%) With senior management, develop, update, and execute organizational strategy—setting the programmatic pathway for IMT’s goals of facilitating community-led decarbonization solutions; broad adoption of building performance programs and policies at the city, state, and federal levels; advancing new code, utility, and regulatory models that center investments in people and that improve the health and wellbeing of citizens; and using IMT’s expertise and influence to bring about change in real estate and other business operations to embody commitments to equity and the environment Continually evaluate and pursue opportunities to partner with other organizations. Identify new partnerships built on mutual respect and reciprocity – where IMT can use its influence and opportunity to advance the interests of partner organizations Track progress against long-term trends through oversight of social and market transformation indicators and quarterly progress against organizational goals Set and communicate strategies and goals around diversity, equity, and inclusion across all programming Representation and Stakeholder Engagement (25%) Set expectations for IMT positioning through project plans, in coordination with leadership team and Communications and Development staff. Represent IMT with key stakeholders including policymakers, elected officials, business leaders, reporters, and funders Serve as a national thought leader on policy development and mechanisms needed to achieve widespread and equitable access to high-performing buildings Develop strategies and plans for collaborating with partner organizations that advance IMT’s mission and improve the organization’s reach and effectiveness Staff Management and Program Delivery (30%) Directly supervise four Directors overseeing program activities (Directors of Community Engagement, Policy, Regulatory, and Business Engagement) and provide strategic direction that supports their leadership of respective programs and other work Work with Human Resources to ensure professional development opportunities are ample and encouraged, and that they align both with staff’s ambitions and with the organization’s strategy As the party ultimately accountable for the successful delivery of IMT’s program work, coach and mentor staff to provide the guidance they need to provide excellent client service Accountable for team’s timely work plan deliverables Development, Fundraising, and Reporting (15%) Set programmatic development and fundraising targets, summarizing outcomes, milestones, and activities in alignment with IMT’s organizational strategy. Communicate with funders about IMT’s impact, including through grant writing, funder reports, and identification/assessment of new funding opportunities. Support and maintain relationships with funders and donors Qualifications and Skills
10+ years of experience in a relevant role to include experience developing and leading complex, multi-stakeholder programs and advancing effective policy solutions Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity in program and/or policy design and delivery Ability to serve as a thought partner to senior management on strategy and project challenges Brings a combination of openness, ambition, and inspiration to leadership and development of a senior management team Commitment to advancing social and environmental justice Outstanding interpersonal, organization and time management skills Ability to take initiative, manage multiple projects, and prioritize effectively Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and communications skills Demonstrated ability as a self-starter, able to think creatively in establishing the program and to work effectively in a fast-moving, rapidly-developing environment Master’s Degree or combination of educational background and/or work experience in policy, community engagement and development, real estate, or the built environment preferred How to Apply
This is a full-time remote position. Occasional domestic travel to in-person meetings and conferences will be required. The salary range for this position is $170,000-$175,000, commensurate with experience.
